I had planned to wait until the new site was ready to go live, but I’m not good at sitting on surprises and I’m way too excited to hold this back.

Seattle cinematographer Patrick Wright recently tagged along on one of my engagement sessions and crafted this rad video out of what he saw. Hopefully it’ll give you a sense of my totally serious, no-fun approach to photography.

Maternity Portraits : Seattle Makeup Artist Erin Skipley

Erin makes her living making others beautiful. She’s the go-to makeup artist for Seattle brides (book early) as well as beauty, fashion and music photographers. We met many moons ago when I still had my girlish figure and was doing fashion shows at Pretty Parlor’s old Greenwood location. Erin had her hands in both makeup and clothing design (the girl is talented) and all the models would angle to be fitted into one of her sexy deconstructionist pieces. She’s responsible for making me look my best countless times over, including my wedding day. I couldn’t let this period of time her life pass without showing just how beautiful she is.

Carey & Brad: Lakedale Resort on San Juan Island

Carey & Brad were married on Valentine’s Day on San Juan Island at Lakedale Resort. The once Seattle / now Brooklyn based couple tested Mamma Nature by having an outdoor ceremony and reception in the woods in mid-February. In the Pacific Northwest. You’d think a 7 month pregnant bride would opt for the sure bet of a warm indoor lodge wedding. Not these two! Carey & Brad crossed their toes and held out for a benevolent weather pattern to pass through, outfitting guests with wellies and umbrellas just in case it didn’t. They must have a large balance in their karma bank because not one drop fell. It was a beautifully crisp winter day.

Brad’s stepfather is a professional musician based in Ohio. He whistled them down the aisle to the Beatles’ Norweigan Wood.

After the ceremony, the wedding party hopped into boats and rowed across the lake to a peninsula on the other side while guests hiked to the reception tent.

Brad’s father, Lindy, is engaged and his brother recently married. There was so much love to go around!

Maternity Portraits : Arges Family

Jennifer & Demetre are getting ready to add a little boy to their family and I jumped at the chance to do some maternity portraits with them about a month ago. If either of them sound or look familiar to you it may be because Demetre, Creative Director at Wonderful Union, is responsible for designing my “Photography by Jenny Jimenez” logo or you’ve been to Halo Salon in downtown Seattle where Jennifer works the chair next to Robin. If the boy will be anything like them, and science says he should, they’re going to have one sweet, creative and good looking baby in their hands in a couple of weeks!

Maternity Portraits : Belly Up

My first maternity portrait took place in the employee lounge of Annie’s Affordable Art 8 years ago. I came in to frame a live image I shot of Elliott Smith and the pregnant lady behind the counter asked if I owned a Polaroid. She wanted to take photos of her belly as a gift for her husband. I went home, grabbed the Sun 600 LMS my parents bought me for Christmas in 6th grade, stopped by Ballard Camera for film and returned just in time for her 10 minute break. She was shy and insisted her face not be included in the composition. She pulled up her sweater, arched her back and cradled both hands beneath her belly button. We looked at each other, then around at the ripped couch, strewn newspapers and half filled coffee mugs that littered the small back room and laughed so hard that I too was holding my belly.

My last maternity portrait session took place a few weeks ago in a house in the Central District and we laughed just as hard. The two ladies below are cousins, due around the same time and so much fun to shoot. I’d love to do some more maternity portraits… or perhaps you have a non pregnant belly you’d love to show off?
